Cannot connect to XBox Live via Ethernet Cable

Hi, I just got my XBox 360 and when I purchased it I got 5 free games with it that I need to connect to Xbox Live and download. But when I plug in my Ethernet cord, it won't connect to the network. I am using Cogeco Cable Internet btw, and connecting directly to the modem.

Says it cannot obtain a static IP or something. I have tried all the suggestions on the website; Changing the MAC address and IP address and resetting to default and all that.

Has anyone run into this issue and how did you solve it Thank You. 

Try it through a router instead, that's what all your internet is on, the modem is for cable and phone.

go to MY xbox-

system setings-

network setings-

select the network that has a check in it-

go to configure network-

go to the right and select restore to factory-

run the XBL test and reply if that dont work-
