imap email settings for ntlworld account

I am trying to set up my Virgin Media email account on my new Windows 10 laptop. I've decided to use Windows Live Mail as my email client because I'm not getting on very well with the new Windows Mail app. However, when I put my details into Live Mail it sets my email settings as POP3.  I have tried to change this to IMAP in the server boxes, but for some reason, when I click in the POP3 box, it won't delete the text. Any ideas?

You can't change the type of account after it's been set up, as you've discovered. You'll have to set it up again from scratch. Follow the instructions on this page: How do I set up Windows Live Mail? with these exceptions:

  • To start the Add your email accounts wizard, press Ctrl-Shift-T
  • When you get to the second page of the wizard,
    • Select IMAP from the dropdown
    • Enter the incoming server name imap.virginmedia.com
    • The server port should be 993.

When the account is up and running after downloading all your folders, you can right-click on the POP3 account name in the folder pane and select Remove account. Read and heed the warning message you see before proceeding.
