Windows Media Player 11 will not play.wmv Files

I am running XP SP3, updated to all current patches. Running EI 8.0.6 . Just upgraded to WMP 11 from WMP 9 and now it won't play my old .wmv movie files. Instead it plays them in something called "ActiveMovie Window", which I understand is part of the EI application now. I've tried the "Apply Media Information Changes" buttom under the TOOLS menu in WMP 11 with no effect. WMP 11 is set to play .wmv files (File Types are set to default: Select All). And in FOLDER OPTIONS, FILE TYPES, the .wmv extention is set to open and play with Windows Media Player, not IE or any other program (e.i. QuickTime).

WMP 11 does play .mpeg files as normal.

Can find little information on ActiveMovie Window except that it's now a integral part of EI. What's going on here?

In WMP on your profile, go to  Tools -  Options-  Performance (press Ctrl+M if you don't see the Tools menu), and click Restore Defaults . Does that help?
