Change the default profile for unidentified networks through the registry.

Hi, I've recently installed a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. Recently I've attempted to share files over a computer to computer network without a router. I've run into problems with this however, because Windows will just recognize this as an unidentified network, set its profile to public and disable sharing. I'm aware that the default profile is changeable through the Local Security Policy editor, but being on Home, I'm unable to access that, so my question is this:

Is there a way to change the network profile settings for unidentified networks in any way besides the local security policy editor? (through the registry?)

Answer

Hi Konaa,

1. Click start type Regedit

2. Find hklm:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. Look for your nic adapter and create a dword named "*NdisDeviceType" and modify the value from 0 to 1 and disable/enable network adapters .

You also might try this :

1.Open registry editor, if you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue .

2.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}

In this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey that corresponds to the network adapter that is connected to the network.

3.On the Edit menu, point to New , and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value .

4.In the New Value #1 box, type DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle , and then press ENTER.

5.Right-click DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle , and then click Modify .

6.In the Value data box, type 1 , and then click OK .

7.Close Registry Editor.

Modifying REGISTRY settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of REGISTRY settings can be solved. Modifications of these settings are at your own risk.
