How to change default view in Windows Folder Explorer

I have a large number of files in some of my media storage folders.
Each time I use Windows Explorer Folder to browse the files, I need to select View- Details to list them instead of the large icons that are displayed. I then have to add or delete columns based on information I want to view related to those files, such as Name, Date, Size, Length etc...

I notice Windows behaves differently when opening a folder with Media compared to a folder with application files. The Media directory folder opens with a predetermined set of columns related to Media and the application folder opens with a different set of columns.

Since this is set by Windows, I would think there is an option to choose which columns I want to display and in which type of viewing format.
When I make the changes once, they remain the same until I reboot, then everything goes back to Windows default.

How can I set the way that Windows Explorer for Folders and Files displays the directory.

If I can't change that, I may have to consider a 3rd party app.
