“Reset this PC” with the “Remove everything” option may fail when the Get Office app is installed

(Updated 4/17/17)

Microsoft is aware of a known issue with the following scenario:

  1. You are running Windows 10 version 1607 and have the Get Office app installed (version 17.7909.7600 or later).  The app may have been preinstalled with the PC or installed via the Store.
  2. You perform “Reset this PC” with the “Remove everything” option.
  3. During the reset, you receive a warning that some of your files cannot be removed.
  4. The reset completes successfully, however some of the factory settings configured by the PC manufacturer might not be restored correctly.
  5. If you then perform “Reset this PC” with the “Remove everything” option again, the reset operation fails.

A fix for this issue was included in the Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703).  To prevent this issue from occurring, we recommend installing the Creators Update.

What happens, if Get Office is uninstalled between steps 4 & 5? Do the factory settings get restored?

Before resetting, run PowerShell as an admin and paste in:

Get-AppxPackage -Name *MicrosoftOfficeHub* | Remove-AppxPackage

Problem solved! You can always reinstall from the Microsoft Store after resetting,  if you really miss ad-ware notifications (search "get office").

Wisest thing to do is un-install that failry useless app- it is only valid for a short period anyhow.

Right click on in it the window (all apps) menu - Un-install

IF you still want the program, it can be found on the microsoft site anyhow.
