Why isn't the IPOD classic 160 not recognized by windows 10?

I upgraded to windows 10 last week and have nothing but problems.  My computer frequently freezes and I have use task manager to restart.  My classic ipod  (160GB)which worked on window 7 will not work or ifs not recognized, how can this be corrected.  I have also lost about 5 of my songs they cannot be found anymore.  What is wrong with this new program?  Please send out fixes and maybe I will decide whether this upgrade was worth the trouble.  By the way this program is not compatible with windows pro 7, had to put my other laptop in the shop to repair it, not happy at all!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Katy,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand IPod 160 classis is not getting detected after upgrading to Windows 10, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.

Please follow the below, and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run Hardware and Device Troubleshooter

  1. Press Windows Key + R, type Control Panel.
  2. Type Troubleshooting in the search bar, click on Troubleshooting.
  3. Click on Hardware and Sound, click on Hardware and Devices.
  4. Follow the steps from the wizard to run the Troubleshooter.

If the issue still persist please refer to below method.

Method 2:

If there no updated drivers available on the computer manufacturer’s website, then try installing it in compatibility mode. Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows. Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

  • Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website.
  • Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘Properties’.
  • Click on the ‘Compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8/8.1 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

I also suggest you to install latest chipset drivers by downloading from the computer manufacturer’s website.

Hope these information helps, please get back to us for future support, we’ll be glad to assist you further.

Thank you.

I have been battling this issue for a week and finally found the solution .. the link says it is regarding itunes 11, and presumably earlier versions of windows, but I just did it in windows 10 and with my classic 160 gb, and bam. Happiness abounds.  https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12313?locale=en_US

by the way, the solutions listed above my reply did not work, and neither did any of the suggestions found elsewhere on apple or microsoft forums .. I tried them all. Even the apple repair guy at my local place shrugged his shoulders.
