Civilization IV run error - "please login with administrator privlieges and try again" message

I have just upgraded to Windows 10, and everthing seemed fine. However, today I tried to run Civilization IV, and it doesn't work.

On Windows 8.1 I would have to run it via the CD. Now, when I click the Civ icon in the Cd drive in windows explorer, it appears to start, then when I get to the splash screen, after clicking play, I get the following error: "please log in with administrator privileges and try again".

I am logged in as an admin already. Anyone got any ideas? I have already turned the notifications down to "never" to see if that helps. It doesn't.

Hi,

This is happening to me too and it's really infuriating. I am the administrator and reduced notifications to never, but the message keeps appearing and I cannot play the game! Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Right click on the Civ IV icon and run as administrator.

That does no work. You still get the "log in as administrator" box

This doesnt work either. After researching the first time it advised right-clicking then running as administrator, but it only brings up the splash screen. when you click play, nothing happens.

I get that problem too.  Right clicking and selecting the run as administrator still doesn't work.  The dialogue boc closes and nothing else happens.

I had this same problem, and too found that running the programme with administrative privileges achieved nothing.
But after patching Beyond the Sword to version 3.19 I found that it worked fine (even without any compatibility settings).  Obviously you have to patch manually with an .exe instead of in-game.  Here is a link to where you can download it.  http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=12576
To reiterate, this is the Beyond the Sword expansion; I have not checked the other editions of Civ 4.  I hope it helps though.

I did as you suggested and uninstalled, then re-installed Beyond the Sword.  I downloaded the patch, but when I attempted to extract the files, I got Error 0x80004005: unspecified error.   Is it a problem with not specifying the correct destination file?
