Exchange account set-up missing for Outlook 2016

I recently upgraded to Office 2016 Preview from Office 2013.  I had several POP / IMAP and Exchange accounts that all worked fine prior to the upgrade.  After the upgrade the POP / IMAP accounts work fine but non of the Exchange accounts work.  I got the following message "Outlook cannot log on. Verify you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. The Microsoft Exchange information service in your profile is missing required information. Modify your profile to ensure that you are using the correct Microsoft Exchange information service" Ok, so deleted the account and tried to set it up again however, under "Add Account" there is no longer an option to set up an Exchange account. There are only two options: 1) Outlook.com or Exchange ActiveSync compatible service or 2) POP or IMAP. The Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service option is missing?

It's not missing - Exchange accounts can only be set up using autodiscover. If autodiscover records aren't published, the admin will need to publish them.

Thanks but I didn't use autodiscover before and the other thing is that it was working in Office 2013 as it was an option on "Add Account"?

Outlook 2016 can only add Exchange accounts using autodiscover. This is a change from Outlook 2013. If you want to use Outlook 2016 with an Exchange account, you need to use autodiscover.

I wanted to try out Office 2016 and went to set up my Outlook account. I use an exchange account that I purchased through 1and1.com. Unfortunately, it no longer looks like I can set up my own exchange account? I guess I don't quite understand what autodiscover is. It appears there is no other way around this? I'm going to look into my 1and1.com and see if there is something I need to do. This would be disappointing.

Hello' Diane

I recently upgraded to Office 2016 Preview from Office 360 right now and cannot to open Outlook.

I receive the following message "Outlook cannot log on. Verify you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. The Microsoft Exchange information service in your profile is missing required information. Modify your profile to ensure that you are using the correct Microsoft Exchange information service"

and after them I have a next message: "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.

The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened.

What can I do to restore my accounts from Office 360 ?

Many Thanks'

Eugene

Hopefully it will change in the release.

There are a lot of reasons why you would connect manually to an Exchange Accout, e.g. a Full Access Account with disabled Automapping.

That is still possible - it's just the initial setup that requires auto account setup. Once the account is in the profile, you can go into account settings and add the shared mailbox to the profile.

Hi Diane will this stay this way? Is this a security feature? what if my companies exchange server doesn't use auto discover? What if they don't want to use it? I want to be able to setup outlook anywhere configuration. Or do I just have to be on the same network as the exchange server and put in the actual server name and not the http proxy until after it connects via the lan?

Also I would like to know if outlook 2016 will change my mailbox in any way and break my other pcs that use 2013 nd 2010 office packages...

As far as I know, they have no plans to change it. If your employer doesn't have autodiscover configured, you won't be able to use Outlook 2016 to connect using Exchange services.

I'm not sure what server names you are asking about - you can't edit the server names and the connection tab was removed. The only thing you can do is disable cached mode and add shared mailboxes.

Outlook 2016 won't change the mailbox and won't break the older versions.
