Installation error 30068-4 (2)

What a hell is that error?
I have Windows 10, Office 2013 - all patched (and "clean machine").

Today I download Office 2016 from Microsoft Partner Program and tried to install.
An error occur:

"Couldn't stream Office. Sorry, we can't find a required file. Please check the installation source is reachable ...

Error 30068-4 (2)."

After some readings, I uninstalled Office 2013 and use "Remove Office Fix Tool", but the problem still exists.

I tried from unpacked ISO file on local disc and from DVD burnt from ISO.
What can be wrong?

Microsoft doesn't have MD5/CRC on their download site, so I now downloading again.

I try to install Office 2016 from ISO file (from Microsoft Partner Program) or from DVD (burned from ISO file).

I don't understand - if I open Internet Explorer - why should I expect to download Office again?

Office installation is downloaded.

This is very strange.

If I try installation from DVD, I get next message:

Couldn't install

We're sorry, we had a problem installing your Office program(s).

Please make sure the Office installation disk is inserted. Do you have enough free space on your main hard drive?

Error Code: 30015-1015 (5)

Please help.

Hi.

From the description, it look like the Office is not downloaded or burnt on the disk properly.

So we could download Office again and try installing and check if it works.

Meanwhile let us follow the steps below and check if it helps.

Step 1: Disk Clean-up  (To delete files using Disk Cleanup)

     1. Open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search

box, type Disk Cleanup, and then, in the list of results, click Disk Cleanup.

     2. In the Drives list, click the hard disk drive that you want to clean up, and then click OK.

     3. In the Disk Cleanup dialog box, on the Disk Cleanup tab, select the check boxes for the

file types that you want to delete, and then click OK.

     4. In the message that appears, click Delete files.

Let us refer to the following article to know more about the Disk Clean-up .

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup#delete-files-using-disk-cleanup=windows-8

Step 2: system file checker

Run system file checker: sfc /scannow

     1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.

     2. Enter command prompt in the search box.

     3. In the list of results, swipe down on or right-click Command Prompt, and then tap or click Run

         as administrator.

     4. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:

         sfc /scannow.

     5. When the system scan is complete, try to install Office again.

Let us refer to the following article to know more about the system file checker

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

Once done, let us try installing Office and check if it works.

Note: You may try installing Office from the DVD that you already have or by downloading Office again.

I hope the above suggestion helps. If you need further assistance, get back to us and we will be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

As I expected - both ideas doesn't help.

Facts:

- Download is ok (I tried three times). Yesterday I also found a SHA1 and it is checked.

- Disk is ok (I tried from different locations and disks and from DVD - it is interesting, that running installation from DVD causes different error).

- From the same sources, installation works if I try to install Office 2016 on virtual machine (with Win 7). So everything is fine with source.

- Privileges on source folder are now set to Full control.

- I uninstalled Office 2013 and also run Fix it (to uninstall it). Fix it now says, that everything is removed.

- Windows 10 64-bit with all updated installed.

- Firewall disabled.

- No antivirus installed (except Microsoft Defender).

Question:

Can you check what does both errors means?

Is there any log to see which file is causing a problem (if I run installation from disk)?

Can setup run with debug parameters?

Good evening,

I ran into the same issue, and thought I would share my experience.

I looked in my application logs and found that there was a file access rule being triggered by an anti-malware program installed on my workstation; in my case the program was McAfee VirusScan Enterprise. I disabled Access Protection and it seems to be working fine now.

I know you probably don't have MVSE installed on your PC, but given my experience, I would suggest making sure you don't have a program blocking access to either the ClickToRun features, registry hives, or folders in \System32.

If there's no programs like that installed on your PC (as you've stated previously), then I would keep an eye on the Application log (Run --> eventvwr.msc) while you run the installer to see if that brings up any clues.

And, once again, let's thank Microsoft for being SUPER UNHELPFUL.

Thank's for your reply.

I tried again (with disabled Firewall and Defender).

The same error and I checked (again) in my Event Log.

In Application part, nothing.

In System part:

The Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

I simply can't find which file causes problem.

EDIT (after some minutes): I can't find any Office install log file in C:\Windows\Temp

I tried with creating a "configuration.xml" file (for more logging) and run "SETUP /configure c:\temp\configuration.xml"

But ... there is no log file after installation attempt.

I'm sure there is a bug.

EDIT - after two hours ... of working on this problem.

Now I have two (quite long) log files ... two interesting lines are:

SETUP32 (0x1a84)    0x288        Nexus Transport    a426j    Unexpected    MsoGetRemoteHostNetworkStatusWithUrlType failed {"RemoteHost": "https://nexus.officeapps.live.com"}

and

OFFICECL (0xc88)    0x1eb4        Click-To-Run    ap11d    Medium    StandaloneStartupBehavior::Start - Exit with error code 17002

Maybe someone can help now.

Hi Iztok,

please try the solution of Stefan  (in the German Forums where you have written).

After the Installation is broken reboot your System. After that navigate to Programs and Features and click on the right Mouse Button, choose Change Installation-> Repair   online (both may be similar, my System is in German at this moment).
