How to recover the Corrupted word document

If you are opening the file, and the error dialog appears, click on details to get more information. Do you see something like "/word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: XXXXXX" where XXXXXX is a pretty large number? If so, then something went wrong during the saving of the document. Often the error is related to the use of indexed fields (XE) or math equations. If you know someone who has xml knowledge, or you can upload your document somewhere, it might be fixable.

If DeanH's solutioin doesn't work and you don't see an error similar to the one described in the previous paragraph, you could try installing OpenOffice Writer. OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org) is a free Microsoft Office alternative. It contains slightly better recovery options for corrupt documents then Word does.
