Question about license transfers and hard drives on the 360

When you licence transfer it transfers to your console's ID not the hard drives so you should beable to just re-download the content :)

I must also tell you that what you and your friend have done is considered marketplace theft and could result in both sets of accounts and consoles being banned from the Live service altogether.

how would it be theft? someone paid for it so it was legally bought and i have his permission to use his content so what would be the issue? I don't want to get in trouble obviously but i don't quite see how it's theft if it's not actually illegally obtained, but instead permission has been granted to use said product.

besides if this is so then they would have to ban anyone who has ever done a license transfer for suspicion of theft. good luck keeping customers

The license transfer tool is only meant to be used if you have purchased content and have had to purchase or switch to  a new console. It's not mean to be used to share games with other people. Even though your friend may have given you permission, the license still belongs to him and not you. So you would be exploiting the system to get something you haven't paid for.

The enforcement team do ban people for this.

And yet on the Xbox One this is exactly what people would have been doing and may do if they decide to bring back the digital sharing. so how is this any different?

It was nothing special anyway; just a few minecraft skins, including the charity one which it was stupid to remove it as they could continue to use the money from it to go towards other charities. So I didn't really lose anything. I was just asking

Even though this is not needed I just want to mention that what onyx62is says is absolutely correct.

When someone pays for something it may be used by them on their profile, or by anyone using the purchasers xbox console, any other use violates TOS and Code of Conduct

Hey i just want to ask on my old console i license transferred with one of my friends so i could get some DLC's so yeah the it got the red ring of death and died so i got a new console and on my new one i tried to download the DLC's again but they don't work can any one help me

This thread is almost two years old.  For future reference it would be better for you to create a new thread detailing your issue instead of bumping an older one.

However, as mentioned above, what you have done is still considered Marketplace Theft so try not to do it again.  As the DLC does not belong to you, you cannot download it.

Remember that Marketplace Theft can result in both the gamertags and/or consoles being banned entirely from Live.
