My Xbox freezes when I try to connect to xbox live...

My xbox was working just fine on saturday, and then i didn't get on yesterday (Sunday) and then today when  i got on my xbox kept on freezing upon connecting to live. I thought it was my wireless connection so i tried hard wiring my connection and still the freezing and my network was up and working (i called verizon and they said our network was working beautifully [FIOS]). Anyway, then i thought it was my account, so i signed in on a silver account on my xbox and still with the freezing. I then looked online for solutions and some people said it was overheating, but my xbox is well ventilated, and i have the fan on the back and it never acts up. I cleared my game cache, checked for any active downloads to see if one failed or something and even checked my hardrive for any "unknown" games, but nothing. I deleted all my arcade games and demos and still nothing. I decided it was time to call Xbox Support. The guy on the line was very nice and tried his best to help my through, but still no luck and he said he had no clue what is wrong. He told me i should send it in for repairs. I have had the xbox 360 pro for almost 4 years now and i think i rather just buy a new xbox 360 slim. Idk what would be better and i still hope there is a way to fix my xbox. PLEASE HELP!
