Hi there. My old gamertag was corrupted somehow, and when I tried to use the recover gamertag option, it said that the account was invalid. I went onto the website to try and log in and get a solution, only to have it create an entirely new account for my Windows Live ID. How do I recover the old account?

You recover the account by logging into it with the correct e-mail and password that was used when you created the account.

I tried that, but it said that the account was invalid. Now the account that I am using to post is linked to my windows Live ID. I need to know how to get the old Gamertag back.

It sounds like you will want to give phone support a call for further assistance with the issue (you can reach them at 800-4MY-XBOX). In the event that you're mis-remembering your password or Live ID, phone support should be able to provide it to you once you answer the account security questions.
