Windows Live Movie Maker doesn't start (Side-By_Side configuration)

Every time i try to launch WLMM this error appears:

" C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\MovieMaker.exe
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail. "

I have uninstalled and installed it a lot of times, and i get the same error! My laptop runs Windows 7 Ultimate , thinkpad Tseries, T61. Please help me!

Hello Danie,

Our product specialist has checked the information that you have provided. You have mentioned that the link provided for the side by side configuration did not work. But the main issue right now is that the programs do not start. One of the reasons as to why this issue happens is because you have incorrect Microsoft versions on your computer. To troubleshoot the issue, please follow the steps below:

1. Do a system file check scan.
1.1Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
1.2 At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:  sfc /scannow
The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
2.  Do a selective startup:

If the issue persists after following the steps, please provide us a new set of logs consisting of these files:

Event logs:

 In Windows XP:

     a. Click Start, click Run, type eventvwr and then press Ok to open the Event Viewer window.

     b. On the left pane, right-click Application and Click Save Log File As. Save the file on the Desktop.

     c. On the left pane, right-click on System and Click Save Log File As. Save the file on the Desktop.

     d. Right-click on the Event Viewer files saved on your Desktop and click Send To, chooseCompressed (zipped) folder.

Windows Vista and Windows 7:

     a. Click Start, type eventvwr on the Start Search box and then press Enter to open the Event Viewer window.

     b. Double-click Windows Logs to expand the dropdown list.

     c. Right-click on Applications and click on Save All Events As... or Save Events As...Now, Save the file on the Desktop.

     d. Right-click on System and click on Save All Events As... or Save Events As... Now, Save the file on the Desktop.

     e. Right-click on the Event Viewer file on the Desktop and click Send To, choose Compressed (zipped) folder.

Verbose logs (wlsetup.exe -verbose).
Here are the steps for gathering the verbose logs. This will require another reinstall.

1. Close all running applications.
2. Click on the Start Menu, type cmd in the Search programs and files box, and hit on the Enter key.

3. It will provide a result on the Start Menu, right-click on cmd.exe, and choose Run as Administrator.

4. A black box should pop up, type this command: del %temp%\msi*.log and hit on the Enter key.

5. Enable MSI verbose logging. By going to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223300 and choose “Fix it for me”.

6. Restart the computer.

7. Log back in to your computer and then close all running applications that may have automatically started upon log on.
8. Start installation and allow for the error to appear. Then please follow the steps below:
     a. Click Start, in the Search for programs and files box, type or copy/paste %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp and press Enter.

     b. Look for files that start with MSI and have an extension of .LOG compile it and zip it

I have provided a new private message where you can submit these files in case the issue persisted.
