Hello, my computer with Windows XP Media Center suddenly is unable to boot and displays only a blank or black screen after the initial BIOS screen. The computer did not boot under the last known good configuration and when attempting to boot with Safe Mode, it hangs after trying to load the NDIS.sys driver.
I used the Windows XP Installation CD to enter recovery mode and ran CHKDSK which claimed to fix an error, but did not solve the problem. I then copied NTDLR and NTDETECT from the installation CD. After that didn't work, I copied the System, Software, Security, Sam, Default files from the C:\WINDOWS\REPAIR directory to C:\WINDOWS\System32\Config and attempted to boot. After that didn't work, I tried the FIXBOOT command in the recovery console. (Although, that probably didn't do anything because I have a NTFS drive) The last thing I tried was a recovery installation of Windows XP with the installation CD. After it finished the first step and rebooted, it hit the same problem - the black screen after the BIOS.
I'm completely out of ideas and have exhausted my googling abilities, so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Drew
EDIT: Sorry for wasting everyone's time, but I found two 0kb files (ltntah.sys and sfhlp02.sys) in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS, after deleting them, the system booted. Again, thanks for your time, but I think this fixed the problem.
