error 80070402 for deleting user account

Trying to delete a user account results in 'could not complete the operation due to error 80070402'. Any ideas on how to address this? Tried with a/c in both administrator and limited status.

Hi DxSmith,

It’s unfortunate that you are getting an error “could not complete the operation due to error 80070402” while trying to delete user account on the computer.

Please be assured that I will do my best to help you fix the issue.

- Were there any recent changes made on the computer prior to the issue?

Let’s follow these methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Test the issue in Safe mode.

Boot the computer into safe mode and try to delete the account and check.

Note: If you delete the user account then you will lose the data saved by those user accounts. You may backup the data if don’t want to lose the data.

Method 2: You need administrator privilege to delete the other user accounts from the computer.

To delete a user profile

I would suggest you may refer the suggestions provided by Marilyn O on June 28, 2012 and check if it helps.
