When using Intellitype Pro 7.0 the media keys on my Wireless Laser Keyboard 6000 no longer work like they did in version 6.31. Essentially when using the keys to play, pause or skip tracks they no longer work when the program you want to control is in the
background. For iTunes the keys work if you have the window on top but if you're playing a game or using a browser and try to pause or skip a track that is currently playing nothing happens. This bug exists in both Vista and Windows 7. Workaround in Vista
is to just not use version 7.0 of the program but in Windows 7 it is the only compatible version.
Side note: Despite the program being correctly set to Wireless Laser Keyboard 6000 v2.0, the Devices and Printers window in Windows 7 says its a Wireless Laser Keyboard 5000. Also all of these issues existed in beta, RC and RTM versions of Windows 7 x64 and
Vista Ultimate x64.
Intellitype Pro 7.0 does not recognize media keys when using 3rd party programs

Then, as I was about to set up the hotkeys in winamp I saw a tickbox (on the Global Hotkeys section in Winamp Preferences that says "Enable Default Multimedia Key Support". I tried it and it works fine, I can play, pause, skip and stop to my heart's content whether winamp is focused or not :)

All these keys work perfectly (play/pause, stop, back, forward, mute, volume up, volume down, launch internet browser, e-mail, search, etc..) without any additional keyboard software installed such as Intellitype Pro 7.x .
As soon as Microsoft Intellitype Pro 7.x is installed for PS2 keyboards, pressing the Play/Pause app key constantly loads Windows Media Player regardless of program focus or default Media Player program assignments in Default Programs/Program Access and Computer Defaults via Control Panel.
Unfortunately I am only able to use the expected functionality of Play/Pause in VLC Player if I leave Windows Media Player open in the background. As soon as I close Windows Media Player, the next time I press the Play/Pause app key will cause Windows Media Player to load again... This is most annoying.
For basic keyboard multimedia app key functionality and configuration without installing additional software (Intellitype Pro 7.x), there are a few very basic registry key settings for app key control here:
***
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\15]
"Association"="mailto"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\16]
"Association"=".cda"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\17]
"ShellExecute"="::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\18]
"ShellExecute"="calc.exe"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\7]
"Association"="http"
***
For now, I must use 3RVX 2.5 to get an on-screen volume display, using the basic windows functions of these keys as per the registry keys above.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1. I've tried all suggestions here with no success using Intellitype Pro 7.x for PS2 keyboard. I must leave it uninstalled at this time.
Microsoft, we have a problem, and so do you.
