I have upgraded the ram to 2gig, and also have an installed a PNY NVIDA GeForce 9800GT graphics card. The only things I have updated.

When trying to install, it starts out fine with the Install wizard whirls up the cd/dvd rom and starts loading, it gets to the same place everytime, I have tried 3 times on this computer and once on my laptop, same exact results. It gets to a wav file 48 on the progress bar and the whirling stops, and it just sits idle, after awhile this is the error I get.....
ERROR 1335
The cabinetfile 'D1-feat~9.cab' required for the installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error readding from the cd/rom or a problem with this package.

I then have this pop up once: Internal ERROR 2350

Then on all three attempts I get this after the ERROR 1335:

ERROR 1603
Fatal error during install, consult Windows Installer help (msi.chm) or MSDN for more info.

And that is as far as I have ever gotten. I have cleaned the disk, it does have a few minor scratches, but I have seen alot worse that played.
I also tryed checking the disk with something I found on here where it supposedly checked the disk to make sure it was readable, seemed to be a DOS mode check, seemed fine, but I may have not really known what I was doing, was a real quick check and nothing changed.

PLEASE HELP!! I am stuck with a game that cost some money and seems to be of no use to me now!
ANY AND ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY AND ALL HELP!!

Had this problem too. Here's what I did to correct it and allow the install:

Run msconfig. Go to the BOOT.INI tab. Click on Advanced Options. Check the box for MAXMEM. After you check MAXMEM, a window to the Left of MAXMEM will show a value, change that value to 1024. and click OK. Click OK on the bottom of the System Configuration window. You will have to reboot your computer. Try to re-install the game when the computer re-starts, you should have no problem. After the game installs, run msconfig again. Go back to the BOOT.INI tab, click Advanced Options again, and un-check the MAXMEM box. Click OK, then Apply. You will have to re-boot again.

Let me know if that helps.

Hi griffster ,

Thank you for posting on the Microsoft Answers Community Forums.

Method 1: Install Microsoft Flight Simulator by using a flat folder

To install Microsoft Flight Simulator by using a flat folder, follow these steps:

  1. Clean boot your computer. For additional information about how to clean boot Windows XP, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796

  1. Save a copy of the Microsoft Flight Simulator to your computer's hard disk. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Windows Explorer. To do this, right-click Start, and then click Explore.
  2. Create a new folder at the root of a hard disk volume, and then name it "Flatfile" (for example, C:\Flatfile).
  3. Locate the drive that contains the Microsoft Flight Simulator CD-ROM, and then copy all the contents of the Microsoft Flight Simulator CD-ROM into the C:\Flatfile folder. To do this, follow these steps:
  4. In Windows Explorer, click the CD-ROM icon (or DVD-ROM icon) that contains the Microsoft Flight Simulator CD-ROM.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Select All.

Paste all the files into the new folder. To do this, drag the selected items on the right side of the Explorer window into the C:\Flatfile folder on the left.

Note If you receive the "This Folder contains "X" hidden files" error message, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
  2. Click the View tab.
  3. Turn on Show Hidden Files and Folders.
  4. Turn off Hide Protected Operating System Files.
  5. Click Apply, and then click Ok.

Note If there are errors during the copy process, this can indicate problems with the CD-ROM (media), a dirty CD-ROM drive, or a problem with your hard disk.

  1. Restart your computer the way that you typically do, and then install Microsoft Flight Simulator from the C:\Flatfile folder onto your hard disk.

If you are using Windows XP then this is a Windows Vista support forum; I would recommend checking Windows XP specific resources:

Hope this helps.
