Win 10 Pro Install Fails With Error C1900101-20017

My system update from 8.1 Pro/64 to Win 10 fails with the error message C1900101-20017 ("The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation").  I have tried every suggestion I could fine on this error - mostly for systems trying to update to 8.1 or the beta version of Win10.  I have removed or disabled all my external USB devices (two HD and a film scanner), tried to install from a clean boot, repaired the windows update service, enabled the superfetch service (not needed because I have a SSD C: drive), increased the size of the Startup Event Trace Sessions (because I saw an even with an error about this), etc.  Nothing works.  I would do a clean install, but the only way to get a valid license key for Win 10 is to do an update.  I also tried downloading the install software ISO and have tried installing from that image - with the same result.

I am at a dead end.  Is MS cognizant of this issue and researching it?  Is there any hope that that this issue will be addressed specifically and/or the install routines modified to deal with this situation?

I'm hoping for some official or semi-official comment from MS about this issue.

Note:  I was offered the Win 10 update on the 29th though I am not in the beta program (fast or slow rings) - which was surprising. Maybe I jumped too soon, but everything I have seen indicates that the update software is ready to go.

It is Feb 7, 2016, a weekend. I have spend three days trying to troubleshoot upgrading to Win10 Pro from 8.1 with the error code c1900101....17. I scoured the internet with this error message. I tried every suggestion to no avail.

I was suspicious my problem had to do with the fact my hard drive is dual boot, windows and ubuntu. On my boot screen, there are two windows boot option, the system reserve partition and the OS partition. The computer restarted after upgrading. Out of frustration and impatience, I accidently selected the system reserve partition. To my astonishment, the upgrade continued! The computer restarted a couple of times, and all times, I selected the system reserve partition until the upgrade was completed. It worked!!!!

I hope this helps. I can't believe how stupid I felt over something so simple!

Same issue here and again it's with a Samsung SSD!

My issue was with how the system partitions on my Samsung SSD were created when I imaged the drive.  In an earlier post, I described how I got that fixed, and W10 then installed without problem.  I assume that the Samsung imaging software they provide now works correctly - it didn't when I got my SSD two years ago.

"Custom install"? No thanks. Wiping off what I have installed since April 2015. Especially tricky was the Cubase audio workstation.

(Wifi-card is not Broadcom. Partitions made by Microsoft installation DVD. Seems that random tricks have helped sometimes...)
