Windows 10 comes with a Word Processor "out of the box". Click on Start and type
wordpad to open it
Wordpad is a basic but reasonably serviceable word processor. Because its default file format is .rtf (rich text format) there are limits as to what can be done with it but many of the features that make up Word, Pages, Writer are not strictly speaking word
processing but the function of a desktop publishing program.
In fact one of the pitfalls of these other programs is people put in far too many gimmicks and eye candy, often inappropriate for the task. One example would be a CV, any recruiter would recommend a CV should be clear, concise and simple to read. With no
bells and whistles Wordpad helps enforce that discipline.
When .doc started to become a "standard" for documents Wordpad's .rtf was a handicap but now PDF has become the accepted format and Windows 10 has an inbuilt PDF file "printer" Wordpad will fit many tasks.
