Unable to load windows after update

As future Windows 10 feature updates are released it will introduce incompatibility with older devices and PC's. Certain components will not support these changes as observed by some users not seeing transparency anymore. Recommendations include, rollback, block the upgrade or consider upgrading components in your system such as graphics, storage, BIOS, motherboard or purchase a new Windows 10 PC.

Power on and off your computer three times

How do you do that?

Power on, when you see the Windows Logo - power off

Power on, when you see the Windows Logo - power off

Power on, it will then your computer will boot into the Advanced Recovery environment

You might be asked to sign in with your Microsoft Account or Local Account password.

Click Advanced Options
Click Troubleshoot
Click Advanced Options

Boot into the recovery environment again, then try performing a startup repair.

Perform the startup repair a couple more times then restart again to see if you are able to boot to the desktop successfully.

If that does not work, boot into the recovery environment, then click 'Go back to previous version of Windows'

If that does not work.

Power on and off your computer three times
On the third time, your computer will boot into the Advanced Recovery environment
Click Advanced Options
Click Troubleshoot
Click Reset this PC
Click Keep my files
Choose your account
Enter your password
Click Continue
Click Reset

If that does not work.

Go to a working computer, download, create a bootable copy, then perform a clean install.

If none of the above options works, you could consider downgrading back to Windows 10 1703:

download Windows 10 1703 from the following link:

Choose the following:

- Windows Final
- Windows 10, version 1703
- Windows 10 Pro + Home
- English
- x64 (64 bit) x32 (32 bit)

Step 2: create a bootable copy

Windows Update might attempt to upgrade to Windows 10 1809 again. See instructions how to block it:

Thanks for your reply. You will notice i said in my letter that i have already just upgraded my hardware on my PC. I have an i7 CPU and 500gb SSD and 16gb of Ram. More than enough to run windows. I have been doing the things you listed in your reply eg. hiding updates etc, but that is not the answer. What has changed in the builds between 1703 and 1709 that is making my PC incompatible and why has it been fine since before build 1509 and now all of a sudden because of a software update i have to get a new OS? Its ridiculous, i wont be standing for it. I have a digital license tghat is now going to waste as i have had to go back to windows 8.1, and my computer runs that and windows 7 perfectly. I cant just keep blocking updates because its going to make my computer unsafe.

What is the make and model of the motherboard you upgraded to?

I haven't upgraded the motherboard. I have just put 16gb of RAM and a 500gb SSD, with an i7 processor.

The motherboard is a HP one but it is made by MSI for HPs OEM use. Its code named MSI-IONA

Well, going back to the website for your make and model, it doesn't list your model HP has certified compatible with Windows 10.

I noticed the only drivers listed for this model are for Windows 7 and earlier.

As I noted in my initial reply, this the reality when it comes to systems and Windows 10's servicing model. My HP Elitebook can't go beyond 1709 without crashing. So, I just leave it at that.

Ok cool, how do you do that whilst still getting adequate security updates etc?

Blocking updates also blocks security updates doesnt it?

ok well ive tried the microsoft update hide tool... It works fine for the most part right until the system starts downloading the feature update to 1803, and then i run the tool to hide the feature update and it tells me there is no updates to hide (meanwhile my system is downloading one).....

You can block feature updates like (1803), but this does not affect getting cumulative updates for Windows 10 1709.
