Try this:

  1. Press and hold on an empty space of the bottom panel, to open context menu
  2. In that context menu click on "Show all notification icons" to enable that
  3. After that you'll see a little ^ pictogram in the notifications area, like in a desktop mode, so click on it to open and youll find same notification icon for flash drive as in a desktop mode, so you can eject it same way.

p.s. shame on Microsoft for their response

Yikes, that first reply was a doozy.  You shouldn't have to update or uninstall anything.  Just tap file explorer/This PC, tap and hold (right click) the flash drive icon shown to the right of your C: drive, hit eject.  Does the same thing as the "safely remove" icon.

Lol... yes ... the first reply was pathetic ..happening too often these days .... an answer i'd expect from Dell or Apple ... or a call center staffed with a  recent MCSE cert. (sorry MS, love your products, you partner support and a bunch of other stuff ... but I don't hire fresh MCSE and consumer support is spotty to say the least ...)

Teach people to read ...
