Unable to boot to Windows 8.1 - Error code:0x0000225

I have a Windows 8.1 lenovo z580 laptop. While I was reinstalling my OS, I had a problem and I was not able to continue the installation. After this whenever I am trying to boot I am getting the error

Your PC needs to be repaired.

because of error in

File: \Windows\system32\winload.efi

Error code:0x0000225

it is asking me to use the recovery tools or media.

i can see two messages below that

Press enter to try again

Press F8 for Startup Settings

I created a recovery USB and tried to boot..but nothing was coming, nothing happens when enter is pressed or F8 is pressed.

I tried to boot from DVD,but that was also not working.

I think my laptop is not booting either from USB or from DVD.

At the time of booting,it is showing F2 to enter setup anf F12 to enter MultiBoot menu.

But both the options are not working.

How to solve this problem???

Hi Diju,

  1. Are you using Windows 8/Windows 8.1 DVD?
  2. How did you install Windows 8.1? Is it through upgrade or clean install?

This issue can occur if Windows Boot files are corrupted. I would suggest you to try these steps and check if it helps.

Method 1:

Normally, if you are unable to boot the Windows 8.1 to its Start Screen, the Automatic Repair will check for the errors which is preventing Windows from booting up and will fix it. If this does not happen, then when you may need to run the Automatic Repair by booting the computer to Windows 8.1 installation/recovery disc and then it will fix the issue if the issue with any startup files required for Windows 8.1 to boot up.

Boot the computer from the disc and then try the following method to perform an Automatic Repair of Windows 8.1.

  1. Contact the computer manufacturer to know on how to change the boot order of the computer. You will have to change the boot device to CD/DVD drive and then boot from the Windows 8.1 installation disk.
  2. In the “Windows Setup” dialog box that appears, set the Time and currency format, Keyboard or input method and the language to install and then click “Next”.
  3. Click on “Repair your computer” from the lower left corner.
  4. From the “Choose an option screen”, click on “Troubleshoot”.
  5. Click “Advanced Options” in the “Troubleshoot” screen.
  6. In the “Advanced Options” screen, click “Automatic Repair”.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Automatic Repair. Check if you can boot to desktop.

Method 2:

If issue persists, run these commands in command prompt and check if it helps. Boot your computer from disk then go to Windows Setup>Repair your computer>Trouble Shoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt.

           bootrec /scanos
           bootrec /rebuildbcd
           bootrec /fixmbr
           bootrec /fixboot

Reboot.

Let us know the status of the issue. If you need further assistance, please post back. We will be glad to help you.

Regards,
Anil
