Outlook.com, Outlook Desktop, Outlook Android App and Google Calendar

Hi,

I have noticed that Google has been really well integrated into outlook.com recently, really happy with this as I need to have both. So, I can now see my Google calendar without any issue on both the outlook.com website and the Android Outlook App. In fact, it works so well that my Android App allows me to bring in the family calendar I have in Google under a different label and therefore colour it appropriately. This is fantastic, thanks for this it is really appreciated.

Now, my only last integration problem is with the Outlook desktop app, which I use extensively. Unless I have not found the option, I cannot see how I can have the same 2 way functionality with Google Calendar. I can bring in a read-only view of it through sharing an ical link but it doesn't automatically allow me to have the seamless integration as I get with the Android app.

Am I missing something? I assume not and if not is this functionality likely to be added to the desktop app at some point soon?

How you setup the calendar may have caused this. Can you elaborate what you mean by the 2 way functionality you're pertaining to? I've tried to replicate your concern on my end, following the steps given on this support article. I experience what is expected on this.

Thanks for the reply. 2 way functionality, as in I can create and edit calendar events rather than just view them. Unless I am mistaken you can only view Google calendar items in Outlook if you add as an ical. Whereas in the Android Outlook app the google calendar app allows you to add and edit as it is using IMAP.

Thanks for clarifying your concern. Since Outlook for Android and Outlook for Windows are two different platforms, there could really be a difference on how it works. Wherein, in Outlook for Android, it allows you to make changes to your Calendar, but in Outlook for Windows, it's a read-only file. This is because of Microsoft doesn't support CalDAV which is a protocol that Google uses.

I would recommend that you contact Google's technical support team for assistance regarding this issue, a settings configuration might address this. Also, I encourage you to post your concern in Outlook for Windows UserVoice, this would be a great feedback as this could be considered as a limitation in Outlook. Our developers would gather information about this, and might include this in our future updates.
