Insider 17711 won.t install over 17704.

I have been running Windows Insider Fast Previews since February. They have all run fine, including last weeks, 17704, until 177ll, which I received yesterday (Friday, July 6,2018). It downloads and tries to install until it reaches 24% and then it stops and starts all over again. It has down this continuously for over 24 hours. I called Microsoft and eventually spoke with a manager. He told me that there was no way to stop it from trying to install (it will keep on forever?) because I was using 17704 (last weeks Insider Preview) and that it would NEVER install unless I buy a new copy of Windows 10. I already have the April 10, Spring, 2018, Windows regular update. So what is is saying is that Insider Updates will NOT install on previous Insider updates. That is obviously a lie. He also told me there is not any Insider preview dept. at Microsoft and there is no one I can talk to about it. Please help.

Whoever you spoke to had NO clue what they

were talking about. But as a head's up, there is

no phone support for Insider builds.

As Joe posted, uninstall any 3rd party AV that you

might have using the makers removal tool if they

have one.

If you check the Update History in Windows Update

is there any sort of error code?

There is an error code:  0x8024200d

I also tried disabling my anti-virus and firewall but it didn't help.

What antivirus do you have?

You can't just disable it, you have to remove it.

From Reading your Post it appears you were one of many that joined Insiders thinking. Great I will have the latest and greatest by Joining the Insiders without doing any research.

If you had done some research you would know that Microsoft has no inhouse user help system and it is beta software with many bugs and problems.

You can always go back to the Public Build but as the build you are on the only way back is to use the Public Download site to use the Media Creation Tool to make a Windows 10 USB key Installer.

Once you get back to a Good Stable Public Build things should be less stressful.

The link for the Media Creation Tool is below so when you go there read all the help things there to make it easier to be successful.

Yes. I installed Iola Driver Booster 5. I have always had Norton Deluxe and Norton Utilities. I also installed Iolo System Mechanic but I didn't install or run its anti-virus. I did disable Norton while trying to install this Insider Update Preview but it didn't help. I think maybe Microsoft has taken 17711 off of their server because there have been so many complaints about it?

I have Norton Deluxe. The Insider Previews have always installed fine until this specific one, so I don't think Norton is the issue.

If you search this forum, you'll see hundreds of reports of intermittent problems with 3rd party antivirus programs.  Sometimes you get away with having them but sometimes you don't, and there's no way to predict when the problems will hit you.  I just finished upgrading 7 systems from 11704 to 11711 with zero problems, but I didn't have 3rd party antivirus programs installed.
