griffball - purposeful betrayals

After playing a fair amount of griffball this weekend for the bonus playlist, I encountered many a player who would randomly betray their teammates. I'm not talking about accidentals when trying to kill an opponent, or even about taking out a teammate who gets the ball then refuses to try to score - I'm talking betrayals right from the spawn - or killing a teammate because he has the bomb. Can someone who participates in this activity answer one simple question - Why?

What purpose does such behavior serve? Are you confused as to the objective of the game? Did you forget what color you were because you were red last game and are now blue? Were you wronged by someone you know and now you feel the need to return this unkindness in any outlet you can?  I have sent many (less lengthy) messages to many such betrayers - yet none have responded. Although this post bears a hint of sarcasm, I have honestly not written this to generate insults - only to understand the thought process by which such behavior occurs. Thanks for your honest feedback.  Jedi

My best guess is that they do it to make their fellow teammates angry. Simply for trolling.

ya, the fact that you cant kick people for betraying in grifball really hurts it. i love grifball, but the betrayers ruin in. Why cant you have the option once they have 10+ betrayals? and the new jetpack and blargball crap sucks too. i just wanna play some regular dam grifball lol

I've never understood betrayals in any playlist. I've also seen people who are beaten to the wraith sit up on top of it so they can't get any kills. I figure some people have nothing better to do in their sad, pathetic lives than be complete dillholes. There are actually people who find it hilarious when they get booted. Don't really see the humor in it.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I was honestly hoping that some "betrayers" would post some responses in here. What gets me is that although they will betray, none of them has the courage to answer up as to why they do it. Maybe we should start a thread for those that like to betray. They could all post there, friend up and have games betraying one another!

They simply do it because they have no control over the gravity hammer. now if you get betrayed by an energy sword then that guy is retard.

No?

.

It's a deliberate act almost as often than it is not and it is specifically because it's so easy with the Hammer.

From my experience it is very difficult to avoid betraying unless you are working as a team.

@ BigB - i understand your point, however, i dont think the strategy of this game is so advanced that it requires much effort to figure out, or requires everyone to have mics. Anyway - my point of the thread is aimed at those who actively persue killing their teammates for no reason other than to kill them (ie no enemies nearby, they are not hogging the bomb etc)

There is a very basic strategy that could decrease if not eliminate betrayals if a group is working together.  When I play I try to pay attention to my team mates and where they are heading but my teammates just go after the guy I am going after. I die and betray in the process.

Its because they know they can get away with it. They can't get booted so they'll go ahead and be jerks for fun. My suggestion is don't quit and betray them if they get on your nerves. At the end of the game, submit a player review on them and don't prefer them so you'll never come across them again.
