Xbox 360 S power brick noise

Have you tried laying it on a different surface, could be vibrating off of what it is lying on

As it's only 6 months old, I would suggest contacting support. Ask them to send you a replacement.

The power brick has only 1 moving part in it and that is the fan. As the power brick heats up the RPM's are going to speed up to reduce the heat. That is normal. But if the power brick is making a noise louder then your xbox that is not normal, usually caused by dust. Try to keep the power brick in not so dusty of a place if it is in one and also dust it every now and then. Seriously if the humming is louder then the Xbox that really is an issue ans since your xbox is 6 months old it is covered under warranty. So please do not leave it like this. I would hate to see you fall asleep playing and a fire start or something. Either replace it or send it in for repair. Keep us posted

which would be better as seeing im only 14 with no job. But i have noticed my xbox is really really quite but this power brick is pretty loud

The power supply orientation is key to optimal functionality. The PSU is supposed to flat on the rubber feet on the bottom of the brick. Hanging or laying on the side can cause noise.  It's recommended that if your console is still in warranty, to contact Xbox Hardware Support for a replacement. After the warranty expires (1 year) it will be a paid replacement which is $35.00.

Again your Xbox being really quite as the slims are and the power brick being louder then your Xbox is a huge indication of a faulty power brick. I don't care what position it is in. The power brick should not be louder then the Xbox with a disc spinning. PERIOD. As ICESTORM III  said the 40mm fans are not known for their quietness. VERY VERY True. Even that said it still should not be louder then the box itself PLEASE send it in for replacement

This isn't a suggestion but I've been having the same problem. Would the power brick doing this cause the Xbox to freeze because that's what mine has been doing?

I took my power brick apart. From the looks of it, I think the sound is coming from the vibration of the fan on the plastic chassis holding it. I ran the fan outside the chassis and it is vibrates. The fan itself seems to be spinning okay but then again, it wouldn't be vibrating if it was perfectly balanced. An anti-vibration pad in between and anti-vibration screws may be able to do the job. Don't hold me for this but that is just my theory.

Having no access with such materials, I winged it using electrical tape. I placed electrical tape where the fan frame and the plastic chassis touches. I somehow managed to reduce the noise but then again, vibration is vibration. Hopefully someone else with access to these anti-vibration materials are able to test this to confirm or bust this theory.

Xbox One have a huge power brick as well. For the mean time I should probably skip on it and get a ps4 until it is guaranteed that this kind of problem do not occur at all.

My Xbox is causing this issue recently with the power brick but I've had it since the Xbox first came out I just think its time to retire my xbox
