I have an older model xbox and a newer black one. I want to somehow transfer my mappacks from cod from my older console to the newer one, could i use a thumb drive to do this? what would work?

Yes you could use a flash drive or you could go into your download history on the new console and download it again. As long as you are on the profile that you paid for the maps with you can use them on any console. You'll just have to transfer the license to the new box if you want to play it offline.
