Problem setting up an Xbox Live (free) account for my son...

Trying to set up an account for my son, and it asks me to log in as the parent and keeps coming up with an error message along the lines of " Locale not supported: the region for the child account doesn't match the region the parent. Confirm your region and try again"

The console has UK as it's locale, as does my Xbox Live profile (slinkyboat500)

It doesn't give me any options, the only thing i can do is shut down the console. Can't find any settings to amend.

Advice appreciated!

Your son's new account must also have UK as its locale/region.

It is already set to the UK - maybe I should try to enter both regions again...

Did you manage to solve this?  I have exactly the same issue, would appreciate an answer to this.  Both my and my sons accounts are set to UK region as far as know, unless for some reason the system thinks they're not in which case where can I check what is registered?

What do you mean by entering 'both regions?' To be sure, are you currently located in the UK?

You may also want to try creating a UK account for him on Xbox.com, and then recovering it to the console.

So my son is trying to set up a Xbox live account, so he goes through the registration process and it says you must enter a parent account to associate it with, so I got through entering my account details (windows live login/password) and it then says "the region for the child account does not match the region of the parent account, check your region settings and try again", you then get a choice of OK or Back and end up going round in circles.  How do I "Check my region settings?" whereabouts in my xbox live account information on line do I find that?  I don't understand why it's querying this anyway, my xbox was bought and registered in the United Kingdom and has never been used anywhere else in the world, my xbox live account was created in the United Kingdom and has never been used anywhere else in the world, same for my son's account, so why is there a problem and how do I fix it?  Right now I've got a very grumpy 10 year old who wants to get onto his xbox live account and can't because of this silly issue.  Do I have to create all new profiles to fix this, or is there some setting somewhere in account settings that just needs changing?  Come on Microsoft help people, please can you assist with this.

Just to be clear, my son and I were trying to join his existing profile on the xbox to xbox live via the "join xbox live" option on the xbox home screen.  He put his details in, then I put my details in on the xbox and got the message about the "check your region settings and try again".  I went online here to the xbox website to check my account is all ok and it seems fine, and appears to be United Kingdom region - at least that what it says at the top of the screen, but I can't find any way of checking my regional settings as the mesasge on the console is asking me to.  We are all in the uk and have never used the xbox or our accounts in any other region.
