Numerous error messages

Hey

I have not been able to connect to xbox live for over 4days now.

I have got many different error messages,

Your router cant obtain IP

Your MTU settings

Your DNS

Cant obtain Xbox Live Server names

I have manually gone in and check my MTU, it was at 1500 (Which is above the recommended 1364) - I read an article that 1365 is the best MTU setting to have, so I changed it to that and still no result.

I have not changed anything to make this happen .... it just happened one morning, strange.

Any ideas to what i can do ? thanks

Hi,

Please read:- forums.xbox.com/.../9.aspx

And post back your details in full (the bits that are in bold on that post) so that people may help

If you are wireless can you also state whether you are using the white or black external adapter or the Xbox 360S Internal adapter

Thanks

Hey, I will try my best to answer all these things

What Country/State/Province do you live in? - Scotland/UK

Modem brand & model number: Virgin Media

Router brand & model number: DLink DI-524

Network Connection Type: Wireless/Wired - Wired

If Wireless, what type of encryption are you using? /

If Wireless, are you using a white or black external adapter, or an internal (Xbox 360S) adapter? /

Things you have tried:

Is UPnP Enabled? Yes/no/Unknown - Dont know

Is NAT Type Open? - Yes

Any Error Codes you encounter: Insuffiecnt MTU settings

What type of internet do you have? Cable/DSL/T1/3G? - Cable

Who is your ISP(Internet Service Provider)? - Virgin Media

After you run "Test Xbox LIVE connection" and click on "More info", what is the exact message shown on screen?

- Xbox live needs 1364 or more MTU etc etc.

Ok so, I phoned xbox up, no help really, but I plugged my xbox directly into my modem and it worked, so the problem is with the router (The router I have been using with my xbox for 3years with no changes -.- )

The guy on the phone emailed me all the ports that xbox need to be open to connect to xbox live.

So I logged onto the router and using a helpful guide opened all these different ports, using the IP address found on my xbox.

I triple checked again that my MTU is set above 1364 - It is, I have tried it at 1365, 1370, 1400, 1450, 1500 - None work

So I am still getting the same error about not enough MTU

Thanks

Hi,

Is your Virgin modem one of the older ones? i.e not the "Hub" or "Superhub". Also is your Dlink running the very latest version of firmware available? There are a few hardware versions of the DI-524 which is yours and what firmware is it running now?

Mister Fitzer - Yes we did work through them all

Shad0wmanUK - From looking at the modem all I can tell is that it is a Motorola, it also says Superboard on the side. I have been with virgin since they used to be Telewest - Not sure but, I cant really remember another modem, so it could be THAT old.

For the router, I personally have not updated it (Nobody else in the house would of either) so, I guess its running what ever it came with ?

Thanks

Also its very similar to the DI-624 so its worth trying to set it up like that to see if that helps:-www.unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/.../62-my-nat-is-strict-or-moderate

I do not have the option for gaming mode, but I have one for 'XBOX support' - which was disabled, so I enabled.

In the steps, number 5 & 6 - Does that mean I have to go and delete the ports I forwarded yesterday ? and then go onto xbox and configure the network to auto ?
