Lost Digital Audio after Update

My wife turned on our Xbox yesterday and after starting up, was prompted to download an update. After installing the update, we lost all sound to my AV Receiver.

My connections are as follows:

• XBox 360 (Halo 3 Edition) connected to Yamaha HTR-6130 via HDMI

• Yamaha HTR-6130 to Panasonic LED LCD TV via HDMI

Prior to the update, we never had any trouble with the XBox outputting Digital 5.1 surround to the receiver via HDMI. After the update, I only get sound via the Digital Stereo setting, passing through to my TV. Setting the Audio to any other digital setting causes complete loss of sound, receiver and TV.

I've checked and double checked all other connections and settings on my devices (TV, XBox and Receiver) with no luck.

I don't know if this is a bug with the update or a new HDMI handshake problem with my receiver.

Any help is much appreciated!

Hey there TwoJay! Thanks for your post. If you were to plug your console directly into your TV, do you notice the same behavior, i.e., the loss of sound when using anything other than Digital Stereo?

Hello STLinker - can you confirm that you've tried the step I mentioned above? It would really help to see if the audio does or does not work when simplifying your display connection. Thanks!

Miss Portia....the same error happened to me today. I updated XBOX live and lost audio through the HDMI connection. My XBOX is connected directly to my TV and the digital audio was previously being passed through successfully from my TV to my digital sound system. After the update I lost the pass through ability. Now the sound works only if I use the TV speakers and not my audio system. Please help. Thx!

PS...I forgot to mention my XBOX is connected to the TV via HDMI and the TV is connected top the audio system via HDMI.....

I just experienced this same problem with the Nov 27, 2012 update.

The only difference in my hardware configuration is that 360 system is one of the pre-HDMI units and I am using the  digital optical audio output from the XBOX 360 Component HD AV Cable to connect from the 360 to my audio receiver.

Digital audio worked fine until this latest update. After the update, the boot logo sequence still comes up with full surround audio, but after the boot none of the navigation or other sounds get passed through the digitial optical output and the only way I have found to get sound back is to do as described above... fallback to rca stereo audio connection, which just doesn't compare and really cripples the home entertainment experience.

I am not sure if the engineers resolved the problem when it occurred with the update in Feb, but I sure hope they can use the knowledge from the previous bug to quickly fix this new one that was just introduced.  Not having full digital audio makes the 360 a really bad center piece to the home entertainment system.

I tried, but the system gave me some message about it being a moderated forum and that the message had to be approved or something. That was last night, the message never appeared.

So... since this was a similar issue from a previous update, and since posting to existing threads doesn't give me the same message about moderation... here you have it.

There seem to be a few others starting to post about audio loss after the Nov 2012 update as well. I hope that enough of the affected find there way to the forums and collectively report the issue so that it gets some attention.

Not sure I understand why the age of the thread should prevent me from posting. Isn't that the point of searching the forums first? :-)
