How to add a Hotmail account to an existing Xbox Live account?

Before I bought my Xbox 360 I used my Hotmail account to set up an Xbox account on xbox.com. However when I got my Xbox and went to set up my Xbox live account through the counsel I was unable to using my Hotmail account so I set up a new Windows live ID for my Xbox live membership. My question is really if there is a way to add my Hotmail account to my new Xbox Live membership? I would really like to use the Hotmail account as all of my contacts are on there and I really just want one email account.

Yes. You can go to manage account and find the email thats linked with your account. If there isn't one, then just add the one you want. If there is one, erase it and put the one you want in. Not sure if this still happens, you can only change your email linked with your account every 30 days.

Thank you for such a prompt response. I neglected to say that I did try to delete/change my Xbox live email to add my Hotmail email. This did not work as I have used it on my PC to set up this CSurfa account and therefore I get an  error on the Xbox saying that the ID I am trying to use is associated with another Xbox ID. Therein lies the issue. How do I delete this CSurfa account so I can use the email attached to it on my Xbox account? Also I can't delete the Xbox live account as I went "gold" with that account. Can "Gold" status be transferred  to the CSurfa account? If it can then that may be a solution to this issue.
