Dolby Digital update Xbox One, when?

Just wondering when the Dolby Digital update for the Xbox One will come.  Any word?  Not having the DD effects my Astro A40's.

DD 5.1/7.1 is in beta I believe. Try going to your sound/TV settings and make sure he box for the surround sound beta is checked off. In only works with certain devices though. No word in ETA arrival other than early 2014.

I too am dissapointed about the lack of Dolby Digital support over Optical cables.

As the poster above me said, the "beta" function only works for HDMI. And even then it caused Dialogue audio to be dropped from "Ryse: Son Of Rome" whenever I played a scene with a cut-scene. It also dropped dialogue during movies. So I couldnt use the "beta" function.

My surround sound system only has Optical Audio Cable slots, no HDMI in slots.

As others have mentioned in other threads, even if I choose Dolby Digital via HDMI and run Optical out from my TV instead of directly from the Xbox One I STILL get only stereo.

So basically Microsoft isnt helping any of us with Optical Audio cable surround sound systems. Because both DTS and Dolby DO NOT WORK. Even though my surround sound supports both DD and DTS, I can confirm like others that neither function works if I choose DTS as a temporary work-around.

I just cant beleive they would release a console this day and age with no DD support over Optical cables, especially when the 360, the PS3, and the PS4, ALL support DD over Optical Cables right now...

Whats worse is when I first booted up my new Xbox One I got the "black screen" and had to call support to run me through some "hard re-boot" process... it took an hour just to call and get the darn thing turned on...then I noticed sound wasnt working via my Optical Audio cables, and thats when I discovered this whole Dolby Digital not being suported debacle.

I again got the phone with MS support, and they didnt even know what I was talking about at first, I got transferred 3 times before I got a guy who knew what I was talking about regarding Dolby Digital. He said he understood I was dissapointed and a patch was coming in 2014 to fix it but for now DD wouldnt not work over Optical... Big bummer. He wouldnt even tell when this supposed patch was coming. He actually suggested either playing in 2 speaker stereo or buying a new surround sound system.... gee thanks!

I was so dissapointed after being an original Xbox owner since 2002, and a 360 owner since 2005. After 11 years as an Xbox gamer I have officially decided to switch consoles. I'm still in dis-belief I wont be an Xbox guy any longer, but I'm just so bummed by my whole Xbox One experience.

Luckily I ordered my Xbox One through Amazon.com and they accepted a return for a full refund!!!

Good-Bye Xbox. It's been a fun 11 years.

Today I ordered the PS4 via Amazon, Playstation world here I come!

The beta surround sound feature only pertains to passing through surround sound received over the Xbox One's HDMI input from (e.g.) your cable box.  See support.xbox.com/.../digital-sound-not-working

It does not enable Dolby Digital over HDMI either.  As for connecting your Xbox to your TV via HDMI, setting the Xbox to output DTS (or, whenever MS finally makes it available, DD), and expecting your TV to output that DTS/DD to your receiver via optical out: please realize that very few TVs support passing DD from an HDMI source out via the TV's optical out and even fewer (if any) will pass DTS. In most cases, you will need to connect the Xbox One's optical out directly to your receiver to get surround sound (or, better, just get a modern receiver with HDMI inputs, which cost less than the Xbox for an entry model).

People who want to use their headset are out of luck as well.  I would like to play some CoD late at night when my son is asleep (the main scenario for me), but right now I can only have stereo sound through my expensive Tritton headset. Very disappointing. I'll remember that one.

That Surround Sound beta box has to do with passing a DTS/Dolby signal from your cable box through your Xbox so you can listen to your TV programming in surround sound if the program supports it. Has nothing to do with Dolby output from games.

The latest update, for me anyways, has magically removed any bass coming from the XB1. I've tried using an HDMI cable and fiber optic cable, plugged directly into my almost-brand-new receiver, and I get nothing... music sounds crappy and games are noticeably less powerful, especially battlefield 4

I truly believe that Microsoft is hiding a major flaw in the XBox One. You can never get a straight answer as to why such an important technical feature such as Dolby Digital out of an optical port would not be available at launch. It launched in 2013. This should at worst be considered a standard feature. How can a system be called Next generation when the previous system was able to handle those features. Very very disappointing.  I have a pair of Tritton AX Pros that I use for Call of Duty. Now they sit as a reminder of the short comings of my new $500 "Next Gen" console. Get it together Microsoft and be honest with your customers and avid followers. What is the real reason the feature is not available?

I'm disappointed and waiting for this update as well.  I have Astro A40s that I use for Call of Duty which I looked forward to playing on the One.  Because of no Dolby Digital support on the One through my headset I play Ghosts on the 360.  I'm also waiting for the headset adapter they promised.

The only thing I do with the One is play Forza 5.  If it wasn't for that game, I would never turn the One on.  I don't have the One hooked up in my living room so the streaming and TV stuff is useless.  I only hooked the kinect up long enough to try it out.  After a day or two I unplugged the kinect and put it in the closet.
