I had the same error last night and all other microsoft services were messed up as well. Messenger wasn't working and none of the msn sites would load up on the pc. They must be having server issues or something.

For MTU errors, you'll want to follow these steps.

Terrific. Having to call ATT on a Saturday is the only thing worse than having this bogus "mtu settings error" in the first place.

My console just came back from it's second trip to Microsoft's repair black hole in two months. Tried to connect it this morning and I get this MTU error message for the first time ever. Coincidence?
My console is connected directly to the ATT Speedstream 5100 modem that was working fine before.

Ran all the XBox 360 troubleshooting steps provided by Mocrosoft for this bogus error message.
Called ATT and they say nothing has changed in the connection.
Plugging directly into the modem helps nothing.
Checked the modem MTU settings and they are fine and over 1364.
This is another Microsoft problem.

Hey mate, are you getting the same exact error message when wired directly to the modem? And to be sure, did you power-cycle the modem when you connected it to the Xbox 360?

Same issue, just moved, plugged everything back in, same router, and it says my MTU setting isn't high enough. I double check the settings, its at 1500... Plug directly into the cable modem, same error... call Comcast, nothing they can do... I don't get it, nothing changed...

I am having the same problem that dragon672 said. All at the same time, the MTU error started, and microsoft sites like, "support.xbox.com", "msn.com", and "MICROSFT.COM" WILL NOT LOAD!!!!!
If it's relevant (which I think it is) I have FIOS, and I am in Baltimore, MD.

Yeah that is relevant, MD had an outage today, don't know the ETA on it being fixed if it's not already.

I also live in Baltimore, MD, am on FiOS and my connection has been fine all day from every source other than my Xbox 360. I went to turn it on for a nice morning of Xbox Live gaming and after running many diagnostics, attempting several fixes and even calling both Verizon and Microsoft to see if there's some other problem, I've come up with nothing at all. I've never received this false MTU error in the past and considering everything else works, I'm not entirely sure what's going on. Is it possible for Xbox Live to have an area-wide outage as opposed to Verizon being the problem? That seems to be the most logical explanation, given that everything else works and my Xbox 360 will even get to the Xbox Live connection phase; it just returns that false MTU error.
EDIT: I also forgot to point out that the Microsoft sites all work, including the support, Live and even marketplace portions of the official Xbox Live websites. I'm not sure what's going on, but it's driving me crazy. I don't want to believe that my Xbox 360 could somehow have just magically destroyed itself overnight.
