Alice Finds Her Voice

So "Alice: The Madness Returns" was released yesterday but a Forum was nowhere to be seen in the run up to this, or even on the day.

I'd been following this for a while and was gutted to learn EA had taken over the publishing rights.

 

However because EA joined the Tea Party a little late they haven't really manged to mess too much with the game beyond slapping the traditional "Hey, why not pay money to have all your upgrades now" and making anyone who buys the game 2nd hand pay money for "American McGee's Alice" (the original PC game).

 

Has received mixed reviews and while some of them make valid complaints so far the overall experience has been a good one.

Only had chance to play the HD remake of the first game so far and its a poor experience for me. Hoping the second game will be a bit better

Isn't the HD remake the one which is causing the trouble because it contains achievements from the original 1000?

It has achievements, not sure how many actually as it doesnt have the 200G a normal XBLA title has. They are tied into the 1000G of the main game.

Thats what i mean, the HD remake achievements are actually included in the retail 1000. Pretty sure we had a thread about it the other day because if you don't buy the game brand new you have to pay for the HD remake.

So really buying second hand means if you don't want to spend more money, you can only get 800G? or something like that.

I think the XBLA title has 100G instead of 200G, so it should be 900G from the main game. I thought MS didnt allow this kind of thing? All retail games had to have 1000G and it has to be obtainable without resorting to spending money?

Is the remake even going to be available to buy over the XBLA?

 

 

Sounds like they'll probably just leave it as an incentive to buy the main game new if they're only allocating a 100GS to it

At the moment it doesnt look like it will be a stand alone game. Once you have inputted your code, the game downloads but you can only load it up through the disc.

Though people who buy Alice second hand can get it, but it looks like it wont be a stand alone game.

Probably uses the same engine then so it works like a DLC chapter rather than something you'd be able to buy independently. In that case the GS split makes a little more sense I suppose ...
