Windows does not recognize my digital camera

I've had the camera for a while and downloaded pictures recently, but today when I tried to download it does not recognize that the camera is attached the computer.  The photo transfer does not being automatically as it usually does, and when I start the Photo Gallery and select the option to import pictures from my camera, there is no camera on the list, even when the camera is on and plugged in.  The only change I have made to the PC recently is installing Norton, so I contacted them for support and they were able to verify that Norton is not the problem by uninstalling the product.  I had the same problem without Norton installed.

So, what's up with that?  I don't understand.

A simple solution would be to use a memory card reader.

Hi clairandamjones,

Thanks for using the Vista Answers Forum.

What brand of camera is this?

Does the device show up in the device manager?
You can open the Device Manager window by clicking Start and typing "device manager".
Click on the entry that appear in the top.

I suggest performing a clean boot to see if startup programs are causing a conflict with your hardware.
Here's how:

Give that a try and let us know how it works out.
