Time sync problems in Vista
An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with time.nist.gov (or whicher server I tried to use)
I have looked at all the posts in this forum about this but don't see any answers to my problem. I have turned off my firewall completely without any luck. I have used MSConfig to restart with nothing loaded in the background without luck. I have compared the relevant registry items with a computer that syncs properly but don't see any differences. I don't have a system restore checkpoint that goes back to when the internet time sync was working.
I am using a Dell M1330 with Vista Ultimate

I use time.windows.com and time-nw.nist.gov
You can add servers too, many of the default ones are probably overloaded.
What security software are you using? What Firewall?

I am using Norton Protection center. I have tried it with the firewall completely off with no luck

When I am in the Internet Time Settings window and I click on Update Now, I get the following error message:

Try this and see if it works?
At the elevated command prompt (with administrator privileges), type the following command
1. Type "w32tm /debug /disable" and press 'Enter' (net
stop w32time gave an Error 5 Access denied response!)
2. Type "w32tm /unregister" and press 'Enter' (without using
the first command the second did not work!)
you should get the response " W32Time successfully unregistered"
3. Type "w32tm /register" and press 'Enter'
you should get the response "W32Time successfully registered"
4. Type "net start w32time" and press 'Enter'
you should get the response "The windows Time Service is starting.
The windows time service was started successfully"
This ensured my Internet Time synchronization started working again when other solutions found on the net did not work. I supposew32tm and w32timecommands
are interchangeable from the responses I got.

I got the following error after the 3rd step.
The specified service has been marked for deletion.
