can't update "WindowsUpdate_80070663" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

This error translates to "the patch package could not be opened".

The first thing I would suggest when troublehsooting this error is to run the following command from an Admin command prompt.  This will re-register the Windows Installer service.

1. Click Start / Run and type CMD and press enter
 - In Vista press Start, in the search box type CMD and right-click the Command Prompt that appears above, choose Run as Administrator
2. Type the following command "MSIEXEC  /REGSERVER" and press enter
3. Close the command prompt window, restart the computer and try the update again

If it fails again, try the next solution below.

I've seen some people resolve their issue using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove the application in question (Microsoft Office,  .NET Framework 3.5) then reinstall the application then try the updates again.
