"Error 0x80070091: The directory is not empty” while transferring data.

file: x86_policy.8.0.Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_x-ww_77c24773

Using Sync Toy to transfer data from my external, backup hard drive, to my brand new laptop, I find that the transfer goes well but gets stuck towards the end of transferring. It takes forever and I see no movement on the progress bar. I that it gets stuck on a path Windows\winsxs\winsxs\x86_policy.8.0.Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_x-ww_77c24773. I don't know how that got onto my external, backup hard drive previously.

Interestingly, there is no file at the end of this path. When I go about deleting this path, I get a pop up with:

"An unexpected error is keeping you from deleting the folder. error 0x80070091: The directory is not empty"

How can I delete this, what appears to be, superfluous item?

Hi Prickly Plum,

It seems that there are some bad sectors on the external hard drive. You may need to run check disk to fix any bad sectors on the external hard drive and check.

Follow this step to do the same:

a. Click Start and in start Search, type CMD

b. Right click on CMD and select ‘Run as Administrator'

c. At a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER

chkdsk /f /r X:( drive letter for external hard drive)

d. Press Y when you are prompted to check the disk the next time that the system restarts.

e. Close all applications, and then restart the computer.

When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and attempts will be made to correct them.

Note: While performing checkdisk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.

Hope this information is helpful.
