I upgraded to windows 10 from 7 yesterday and changed a user account to a windows account.

I then linked a credit card and paypal to the account and tried to install the windows store app Emby.

However, when trying to buy the app the following error is displayed

Thanks Ratandeep. I tried resetting the store cache and there was no proxy. Neither of these things helped.

I tried buying another app and it failed with the same message.

This could be related to the now famous "Something happened Something happened" error on upgrading windows 10. I received this error message when upgrading and changed the administrative region to the US to force it to upgrade. This may be punishment for being mean to the upgrade program. lol

I changed the region back as soon as possible, but ended up with two regions in the app store US and Australia. All of my payment options are in Australia. I have two payment options Paypal and credit card but the store doesn't even prompt me which one to use.

Hi again Ratandeep

I have tried:

A different credit card (in my name) by itself and this didn't work.

I tried paypal by itself but that didn't work.

I tried my other credit card (in my name) and it didn't work either.

Then I tried all three options and the same result:

Something Went Wrong.  So very specific and informative. lol

It seems to be failing before even offering a choice of payment option.

It is a real shame as I am very keen to buy some apps and am finding this very frustrating.

Hi, I have had the same problem after updating to windows 10 from Windows 7. Spent 2 and a half hours on the phone to Microsoft and had no luck. I have found a work around, if you log into a different account and then use your sign in information on the windows app store, it allows you to purchase the app. Hope this helps and I hope Microsoft find a solution soon.

Thanks for the advice Martin, I just don't want to make the problem any worse.

I have heard that there is a large update coming for windows 10 shortly and I think I will wait for that and see what happens. If not I will definitely try your method!

Thanks again, I'm happy I didn't call!!! At least we can be sure Microsoft are aware of the problem.

I don't think this will make the problem worse, as are using a different account with different settings. I think it is the way windows has set up the account when upgrading, as when I use the different account it allows me to go to the payment. Microsoft passed me to 5 different agents and I was on hold for nearly 10-40 mins each time, the final agent wanted to take control of my computer, which I was unwilling for him to do. I wondered if creating a dummy user as an administrator, deleting the original account (backing up documents, etc) that you want to keep, and then adding the original user through the user accounts, would work. I have not tried this as I have quite a bit to backup. Hopefully this update will help when it comes out, it is frustrating as I can download free apps, but comes up with this message when purchasing. There is quite a few people with this problem, but no one has found a definitive solution yet. If you find out a way to do let me know, and I will do likewise.

Just to let you know, there has been a cumulative windows update that I have just installed, but this does not solve this problem. Still keeps coming up with Give it another try-Something went wrong. Hope they do another update soon to fix this problem.

I wonder what happened to Ratandeep? lol

I was very disappointed the update didn't work. I had another problem with pin to start menu not working that was caused by kaspersky (my anti virus) and I thought that this patch fixed this but it didn't fix it either.

Martin did you force the windows 10 upgrade by changing your region? I am in Australia and think it may be because they haven't rolled the upgrade out in my region yet and haven't activated the store in this region? It smells like a server side issue to me, not a local computer issue.

Ratandeep could you confirm this?

I am in the UK. No I did not force it to upgrade. When I installed the upgrade, it caused windows to delete the Kaspersky exe file on all 3 computers, even though it was the latest version that was installed. Had to go back and download it from Kaspersky to get it to work. I tried to disable Kaspersky when trying the store, but this still caused the error. I don't think it is a server side, if it is why can I go onto a different account and use my signup information on the store and purchase apps that way. I think it is the way it sets up the account when it did the upgrade, possibly some of the settings within the account profile is wrong or corrupt.

I tried the new user account method: "sign in with a local account instead" and then signing in, but got a crash and a new error message:

The server stumbled

We all have bad days.

It isn't even funny anymore.

So how did you create a new account? Was it - Add a family member - add an adult?
