In order to overcome the winload.exe problem, I followed the online instructions to download the media creation tool and create the installation/repair materials. First, I burned a DVD with the Media Creation tool and proceeded to try to boot from it only to find that the computer needing the repair was not reading the dvd. (This after waiting for over an hour for it to work.) Then, I went back and created a USB version and when I took it to the needy computer, and ran the setup.exe file it gave me an odd display saying it was going to install windows 7 ?!?!? Even though I clearly downloaded the Windows 10 install files. It further stated that it was not able to complete any repairs on my system.
I do not know what to try next other than the same thing, but why would I expect a different result? How can it be so difficult to get some installation files for Windows 10?
This entire process has now taken over 12 hours of time with absolutely NO progress! For over a quarter century, I have been a loyal Microsoft windows user, but today's experience has made me think it is time to go to Apple.
