Windows 10 October 2018 Version 1809 installed but was not showing my product key

Windows 10 October 2018 Version 1809 installed but was not showing my product key after installation. I had to replace the motherboard as there was an ongoing problem with it. All seemed to be ok apart from the product key needed to be entered I tried several times before I contacted the help desk they checked it & said it was a Volume key that I shouldn't of had but it was purchased with my PC 2yrs ago so basically Microsoft said they would not upgrade my Windows 10 pro on my system as it was a free upgrade from 8.1Pro & that I would have to pay £219.99 for a new key for Windows 10 pro. I have since purchased this at the time as I was stuck with no system & MS to fix it, but having read the problems the 1809 update has caused many people I feel I have been robbed to buy another product all was fine before the update 1809 & I had a working Windows 10Pro which was registered any other people had similar problems???
Hello, A pleasure to help you.

I must tell you that the problem that occurs after the update is known and the Microsoft team is in the process of investigation, since several users have reported this incident.

"We have paused the implementation of the Windows Update October 10, 2018 (version 1809) for all users while investigating isolated user reports that are missing some files after the update.
Microsoft employs a gradual implementation scheme, and not all Windows 10 users have received their last six-month update of the operating system. "

They suggested that you follow the Workaround steps that Microsoft requests to know about your incident described in the previous article.

you guys said that you would pull the 1809 update to investigate the problem (that was in early october)....however i got the 1809 update today 22nd November and my windows activation is now gone! I can't even activate it by putting in the original product key again!  seriously?  When putting in the product key I get:

"the product key you entered didn't work. check the product key and try again, or enter a different one.  (0xc0000022)"

how on earth are you going to fix this considering if your activation is not working your automatic updates will also be disabled....meaning users can't get fixes ?

EDIT:  weirdly enough my pc just activated randomly all of a sudden a day later?!  weird.
