update kb4041676 will not install

no matter what ive tried this install fails. fixed using trouble shooting it a fresh clean install new disk no issues in sfc scan but dism cleanup has errors and cant get it sorted either. ive downloaded standalone and it doesn't work and download either stalls around 14% or fails. microsoft recommending doing update install when ive only just did this install. any ideas?

Don't install it, its a notoriously buggy and its causing a lot of problems for systems with Windows 10 1703.

This is Microsoft's current fix at the moment:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/404909...

Block it for the time being until Microsoft issues a proper fix possibly with the next Cumulative Update:

Hi,
Try resetting Windows 10 updates using an automatic script. See:
www.yourwindowsguide.com/2015/12/windows-update-complete-reset-in.html
Make sure you run the script as an administrator.
In addition, if it fails at restart have a look at:

Hello,

Try refraining the update as it may cause boot issues after installation. Wait for the Fall Creators Update arriving on 17th Oct, 2017.

Regards.

I've had a similar issue for sometime ... but resolved it this evening.

I had tried resetting windows update files, and running troubleshooter without any luck.   I applied it from the windows update software catalog directly successfully but I suspected that it was preventing me installing 1709 Fall Creators update since then, so I uninstalled KB4041676 and ran the windows update check.

It found it was missing but again it failed on the same an 8007 error at the same 14% at the first reboot.   Someone suggested in another thread here about disabling your antivirus during the install.  Generally don't like to do that but what the ...

So I then disabled my software firewall (windows defender) and my anti virus (f-secure) and voila ... it applied through Windows update check.   Holy.

Sharing this here if it helps anyone else.   Perhaps now the next time 1709 tries to apply it may work.
