Optional Cumulative Updates: January 29, 2020

A new set of optional updates, KB4532695 for Windows 10 version 1903 and 1909 is available from January 29, 2020. The build number jumps to 18363.628.

As 1903 and 1909 share a common core of the OS, the update can be installed on both the releases.

Improvements for 1903:

  • Improves the accuracy of Windows Hello face authentication.
  • Addresses an issue with Windows Mixed Reality that occurs after upgrading to a new version of Microsoft Edge.
  • Addresses an issue with download notifications that have multiple short-duration tabs and redirects.
  • Addresses an issue that changes the user-customized order of tiles in the Start menu even though the layout is locked or partially locked.
  • Addresses an issue that causes a grey box to appear when you search within Control Panel and File Explorer.
  • Addresses an issue with a memory leak in ctfmon.exe that occurs when you refresh an application that has an editable box.
  • Addresses a keyboard reliability issue for classic apps in the Windows Mixed Reality home.
  • Addresses an issue that, in some instances, prevents the Language Bar from appearing when the user signs in to a new session. This occurs even though the Language Bar is configured properly.
  • Addresses an issue that causes the touch keyboard to close when you select any key.
  • Addresses an issue that prevents software Indirect Display drivers from being signed with more than one certificate.
  • Addresses an issue that, in certain cases, causes multiplayer PC games to drop the invitation to play the game in multiplayer mode.
  • Addresses an issue with unsigned program files that will not run when Windows Defender Application Control is in Audit Mode, but will allow unsigned images to run.
  • Addresses an issue that causes the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) process to stop working when you sign in using an updated user principal name (UPN) (for example, changing UserN@contoso.com to User.Name@contoso.com). The error code is, “0xc0000005 (STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION).”
  • Addresses an issue that sometimes causes an error when you unplug a USB type C hub flash drive.
  • Addresses an issue with the Always On Virtual Private Network (VPN) that fails to remove the Name Resolution Policy Table (NRPT) rules after you disconnect.
  • Addresses an issue that might cause the Print Management console to display script errors when you enable the Extended View option.
  • Addresses an issue that causes the Windows firewall to drop network traffic from Modern apps, such as Microsoft Edge, when you connect to a corporate network using a virtual private network (VPN).
  • Addresses an issue that displays incorrect indicators for offline and online files.
  • Addresses an issue with ntdsutil.exe that prevents you from moving Active Directory database files. The error is, “Move file failed with source <original_full_db_path> and Destination <new_full_db_path> with error 5 (Access is denied.)”
  • Addresses an issue in which netdom.exe fails to correctly identify trust relationships when an unconstrained delegation is explicitly enabled by adding bitmask 0x800 to the trust object. The bitmask setting is required because of security changes to the default behavior of unconstrained delegations in Windows updates released on or after July 8, 2019. For more information, see KB4490425 and 6.1.6.7.9 trustAttributes
  • Addresses an issue with evaluating the compatibility status of the Windows ecosystem to help ensure application and device compatibility for all updates to Windows.
  • Addresses an issue that might cause the Application Virtualization (App-V) Streaming Driver (appvstr.sys) to leak memory when you enable Shared Content Store (SCS) mode.
  • Addresses an issue that corrupts a log file when a storage volume is full and data is still being written to the Extensible Storage Engine Technology (ESENT) database.
  • Addresses an issue in which code refactoring breaks optimization for writing metadata, which increases Logical Volume Integrity Descriptors (LVID).

Improvements for 1909:

  • This build includes all the improvements from Windows 10, version 1903.
  • Addresses an issue that prevents File Explorer's Search Bar from pasting clipboard content using the right mouse button (right-click).
  • Addresses an issue that prevents File Explorer's Search Bar from receiving user input.

Is it possible that this could be causing issues with remote desktops and being able to log in through a gateway?

Installed this in an Intel NUC8i3BEH and encountered very slow boot times.  Windows would get stuck at splash or welcome screen for around 5 minutes.  I deinstalled this update and reinstalled twice, with the same results.  It is now deinstalled.

It works fine on Surface Pro (5).

I just installed the updates and now my acer UHD 4K2K monitor won't display my extended laptop display. Says there is no signal. Tried changing the hdmi cord, updating drivers, restarting, etc. Nothing works.  I have a HP Spectre x360.

yup im not sure if it was this update or not but it was one of the ones that came out this morning. It has totally disabled my sound from my soundblaster sound-card and my nvidia video card. I rolled everything back and my sound is still disabled. Maybe its the security update because i can't remove that.

Also I noticed it disabled my readyboost drives as well.

What a crock of poop! Not the way i wanted to spend my day thats for sure!!!

I am getting so fed up with windows I am thinking of switching Operating Systems to Linux. I am tired of MS bugs and failures wrecking my day, my projects and my life!

So looks like in order to get my sound back i'm going to have to reinstall windows!!! FFS! If thats what it comes to i'm done. if I have to go through all that I might as well just install linux.

oh and i've been a hardcore windows user since 1995. I even did tech support for MS back in 97, 98. So now you see what this BS has done.

I have also lost my TPM Driver and now bitlocker is not working and I am constantly getting BSOD (Memory Management). Not expecting anything better from MS though.

My desktop just updated to 1909 and tried to reboot.  It locked up and wont boot up.  In fact, it does not respond to the power button at all.  I can not access the bios or do anything at all.  This update had been a problem in all my computers, usually slowing down the computer or locking up the screen.  This is the first time that I have been unable to uninstall the update to regain the use of the computer.

Hate to break it to you but I just installed this (as well as the NET FRAMEWORK and other updates currently being offered) and my sound is fine. So it isn't a Microsoft problem pure and simple. How about telling us the make and model of your device and we'll see what can be done to assist you.

Mine (which, as stated, is suffering from no issues from this update) is an HP Pavilion Desktop - 510-p009 PC

So what are you using?
