Hi JasonSummey,

Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

App & browser control in Windows Security provides the settings for Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, which helps protect your device from potentially dangerous apps, files, websites, and downloads. So technically speaking it should be turn on.

You can try to run a scan in your device to check if there are virus that causing this issue.

Also to scan the your device itself you can run the SFC to check if their are problems within your system files.

To run SFC
- Open Start, type: CMD
- Right click CMD
- Click Run as administrator
- At the Command Prompt, type: sfc/scannow

Hope it helps.

Hi JasonSummey,

Currently based on the other user experience they are still encountering bugs for the new windows update. As per Microsoft itself they will address is this coming days. You can use the feedback hub to tell them the issue that you encounter.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/402156...

Also I suggest that you better run a scan just to be sure and safe.

Regards,

Hi,
I am Vinu, an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I will try to help you with this issue.

This issue can happen for multiple reasons.
1. You have a third party Antivirus which does browser security separately than Windows Security.
2. You have a new browser installed which was not there earlier (Say, new chromium based edge)
3. One of your app in administrative privilege disabled the app protection for some time. May be during install something like that.

In any case just turning this "ON" then when you restart it should come up clean. Specifically this shouldn't be an issue with 2004 update. I had this same issue and when I turned on the app protection and restarted the computer it was alright.
