Windows Update automatically installs a broken Synaptics Touchpad Driver which results in this.

Plug in a USB mouse, remove the Synaptics Touchpad Driver and install the newest one manually. (19.0.15.2)

How would I go about removing the synaptics touchpad driver and installing the newest one manually?  I have never done anything like this before and am completely lost.

I installed the latest Synaptics Touchpad Driver (19.0.15.2) as you suggested and my laptop still will not come out of sleep mode (black screen) and eventually crashes to the (BSOD) DPC_Watchdog_Violation error. My Dell XPS 17 (L702X), i7 2820QM @ 2.30Ghz, 16GB ram, NVidia GeForce GT 555M - 3Gb never had problems with Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 8.1 and worked perfectly prior to the Windows 10 Pro upgrade several days ago.

Maybe the newest ones (19.0.15.2) are broken as well. Just uninstall them, disable automatic driver updates and let windows install the standard microsoft driver for touchpads. this one is the only real stable one, as it seems.

I rolled back to the original Synaptics touchpad drivers (actually tried 2 different stable drivers). These both worked fine with Windows 7 and 8.1 with no issues. I don't believe this is the problem with Windows 10 Pro (at least my upgrade) and is likely something else other than the touchpad driver.

I finally fixed the sleep issues with my machine!!! Thanks to all for suggestions and fixes.

I had this error with Dell XPS L502x sleep mode, computer would reboot after delay. I just updated Nvidia GeForce graphics drivers for Win10. Problem solved.

Yeah, Windows 10 Nvidia drivers were one of the first things that was downloaded by Windows Update when I went from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro. Version 353.62 was loaded with windows update when I first noticed the sleep problem. About 10 days ago Nvidia released the latest v.355.60 drivers which did not help or fix the Sleep Mode issue for me. 

Since I was still having the problem, shortly after the latest release of Nvidia drivers I decided to uninstall all the display drivers and start with the first WHQL certified Geforce Windows 10 driver v.353.30 released on June 22, 2015. I also used the Display Driver Uninstaller v.15.4.0.0 from Guru3D.com between each install/uninstall. There almost always lots of dll files and registry settings leftover even after the uninstalling the drivers using the Nvidia uninstaller or the Windows uninstaller. 

All three drivers 353.30, 353.62 and 355.60 were completely uninstalled, reinstalled and tested and I still have the Sleep problem.... totally stumped on this one.

I ordered a new Samsung 850 EVO 2TB SSD that should be hear on Monday so I can do a clean install. Its the only thing that seemed to work for me on my Dell XPS 17 3D (L702X). I did a clean install (more details below) on a spare SSD I had laying around and it worked great, unfortunately its only 240GB (too small) for my needs so I ordered the larger SSD. I know its a driver problem since it worked great from a clean install from a DVD. The only driver not installed immediately or when Windows update ran was the ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor Driver that Dell installs to protect the hard drives in laptops from falls. Loaded that and Device Manager was happy, happy, happy.
