Windows 10 BSOD - Unable to ZIP or upload .DMP files

Good morning,

I built a PC for the first time recently and everything was fine for the first day. However I started to get the dreaded BSOD. I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool and it identified a hardware error. There are links on this forum that explain how to ZIP and upload the error logs but I can neither ZIP or upload the files. When I try to ZIP the files it returns a message saying 'WinZip encountered an error' and when I try and upload the .DMP files directly to OneDrive I get 'You don't have permission to open this file'.

I have checked my privileges and not only am I the system administrator but I also made sure I was the 'owner' of the .DMP files. I still get the same messages.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Chicken, please try this this way . . .

Open Windows File Explorer

Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump

Copy the mini-dump files out onto your Desktop

Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows

Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder

Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)

Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .

Thanks for the quick reply.

When trying that I get 'File not found or no read permission'.

Its very odd as I am the sole user on this PC and I can clearly see that I am set as administrator.

Hi ChickenShizzle

Were you able to copy those files out onto your Desktop?

Or did you get that error trying to copy them out?

When I tried to copy them to the desktop I got prompted to confirm something (my apologies I cant remember what it was....think it was something to do with permissions). I think I've solved it though. I have managed to give myself 'read' privileges (had to change it manually in properties....don't know why I had to do that?!). Will upload the zipped up files now. The permission problems wont effect you will they?
