Windows 10 Remote Desktop Session - Sound stops when disconnect

Hi.

When I disconnect a Remote Desktop Session to a Windows 10 host, the applications keep on running, but sounds stop playing, in fact music stop playing.

The Remote Sessions is configured to play sound in the host PC.

Until a couple of days ago, it used to work fine. I do not remember having changed a configuration around this.

It used to work even after the anniversary upgrade.

I have tried changing the policies with the Group Policies Editor, to make sure the session continues after ending the Remote Session but without success.

Can someone help me?, please.

I have the same problem, Windows 10, anniversary update and fully up to date.

I have confirmed that the RD connection is set to leave the audio on the remote computer, but when I connect via another computer (with the same setting), or simply disconnect the session, the audio stops.  I have to restart the audio application to restore the audio.

Thanks for sharing.

I have done several things trying to solve the issue:

1. I did a clean installation of Windows.

2. I stopped Norton Antivirus (and it was not added to the clean installation of Windows).

3. I have changed firewall settings and Remote Desktop configuration (there is not a lot to change).

I do not know what else to try.

The problem happens once I am connected. There is no problem with the configuration of RDC connetion.

If there is some music playing in the remote server when I connect (with the same userid) the music stops. JRiver Media Center or YouTube running in Edge or Chrome) applications do not close. Only the music stops. I click on play and get the music running again.

Then when I disconnect the remote session, the same happens. The application does not close but the music stops playing.

Thanks.

Regards.

Same problem since the update, it use to work like a treat.

As soon as I disconnect or the RDPing computer goes to sleep the sound stops on the remote computer.

Works fine though if I start the music from a remote application like "iTunes remote".

Also if music is started from a remote app and I rdp to the host there is a brief interruption to music, this never happened before.

Exactly the same problem.

Instead of iTunes, I use JRiver Server Media remote, and it works fine.

I wonder if someone from Microsoft could jump in and give us a clarification or a solution.

It is really a pity because this has worked fine for years.

Same exact thing with Pandora running inside Chrome. I figured it was some bug in the monster "Anniversary Edition" upgrade which I didn't want and they will (eventually) fix it.

Any news on this one? Do we have evidence that Microsoft is aware of / tracking this issue?

The issue isn't that sound isn't playing on the remote device, it's that it terminates when the RDP connection does.

Interestingly, if it's with something like a YouTube video, the video stream continues, however the audio stream will not return even if the video is paused/unpaused. The sound will not return either, if playback is started through the RDP connection, or if the user returns to the physical machine/keyboard logs back in, and attempts to resume playback.

So it's definitely a flaw that has crept it's way into Windows 10, as I used the feature many times in Windows 8.1 up until at least less than two months ago before I finally re-upgraded to Windows 10.

Sometimes, a Spotify music stream will continue after a disconnect due to loss of network connection between the RD client and the host. JRiver music stream stops even in these cases.

RD performance in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 was the same. It changed with the new Anniversary upgrade of Windows 10.
