Cumulative Updates - February 27, 2020 - KB4535996 Optional

I an here because I have no idea where to go and this was the first thread that showed up.

I am also tired of not having the option to install updates or not and now one of the updates has caused my computer to suddenly start shutting down if I am not in the office using it.

I have told Windows not to shut down the screen or the computer in the power options but happens anyway.  I need to work on my computer remotely during the day when I am not in the office but I can't because Windows shuts it down.

I really need some help with this so if no one here can help I would appreciate it if you point me in the right direction.

It's not just this update (KB4535996), Windows Viruses (wrongly known as Windows Updates) KB4052623 &/or KB4537572 broke all printing to a physical printer.

This "update" (KB4535996) is supposed to "Updates an issue that prevents some applications from printing to network printers."
It did not fix it.

It seems like virtually all Windows Updates break some major functionality.

This has been going on for years.

Clearly, Microsoft does not believe in testing its Updates before releasing them.

They have a Release Date, & ready or not, its going to be released, no matter how many computers it breaks.

Some have reported this Update has totally broken their computer.

Last year's (2019) Update KB4522355 completely destroyed my laptop & had to get a new one.

Like some reported for this Update, it broke Restore/Reset/Recover/Etc.

I had a simple solution in the end. After fixing the problem only to crash again and again, to the point the hard drive became unreadable, I gave up and bought a Mac.

I simply need reliability and not be in situation where a system crashes at a critical  point. I regret ever changing platforms.

Alessandro Zangarelli, you are incorrect.

In Windows 10, occassionally, there is an Update that is marked as "Optional".

It is rare, but there have been a few I have seen in the past 4-5 months.

The Optional ones appear below the forced Updates.

Also, in https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4535996/windows-10-update-kb4535996, it says:

"In the Optional updates available area, you’ll find the link to download and install the update."

You can exclude these Updates by not clicking on them in the Windows Update area of Settings.

You claim that it is an optional update, but I would like to point out that with Windows 10 it is not possible to exclude and / or choose updates, so when a user finds an update to be made it is very likely that he would consider it necessary.

I have been searching for why the latest updates to Windows 10 are causing me to get a black screen when Windows tries to start--before I can even sign in.  This has happened twice, once forcing me to restore, the second time to remove updates.  First I removed the Quality Updates--nothing.  Then I removed the Application Updates, and Windows is running. 

But I cannot figure out how to identify what update is causing the black screen, nor how to stop it from re-updating.

The PC is a home-built rig with an AS Rock MB, AMD RX2700 CPU, SSD drive (less than 1/5th full), a fairly full 2 TB RAID drive (about 100 GB left free), older Nvidia pair of video cards, and dual monitors.   In the Black Screen, the mouse moves on the right hand monitor, but not the left, the main one.  Frequently, on the left, there's also a dark gray band that covers the bottom 5th of the screen.

This Optional update is breaking a lot of PC's out there (including my parents who don't know and you should not expect them to know which updates install or not) so, you should at least remove the update until it is OK.

Windows should not have a break button.

This needs to be addressed. We should be able to prevent an optional update if it causes problems. No I have to either pause updates for 7 days and then uninstall KB4535996 again. This update causes both my laptop and desktop to not go into sleep mode.

Please, either fix this update or let me block it from installing.
